What if I'm 74?

If you reside on the Isle of Man or Guernsey Islands you will qualify for a free TV Licence as soon as you turn 75. To apply for it, please call 0300 555 0286 and give your date of birth and National Insurance Number. You only need to pay for a TV Licence until you turn 75, so your payment schedule will show the payments you need to make up to your 75th birthday.

If you reside in Jersey you need to visit the Jersey Social Security department to discuss your eligibility for a free TV Licence.

What if I'm 75 or over?

I have a savings card but haven't got my TV Licence yet. Is this normal?

Your paper licence is sent to you by post, attached to a letter. If you haven't received it, call us on 0300 555 0281 to speak to one of our agents.

What is the TV Licensing savings card?

This is for people who have at least three months left on their current TV Licence before it expires and want to save towards their next licence. The TV Licensing savings card helps you save towards your next licence in small, manageable amounts at any time from as little as £2.

How does it work?

You'll receive a Welcome Pack containing your savings card. You'll be able to add to your savings whenever you like. If you've saved enough to cover the cost of your next TV Licence when your current licence expires, we'll automatically send you your next licence in the post.

What information can you text me?

If you text INFO followed by your Customer Number (eg: INFO 123456789) to 64488 we'll send you the following:

  • TV Licence expiry date
  • Date and amount of last payment received
  • Balance
  • Next statement due date

All texts will be charged at your standard text message cost set by your mobile phone service provider.

If you are already receiving text messages and would like to Opt out of this service then please call 0300 555 0281 and we will remove your details from this service.

Can I pay by text?

Yes. If you've previously made a debit/credit card payment to your savings card, simply text PAY followed by your Customer Number along with the amount you wish to pay (eg: to pay £5.60, text PAY 123456789 5.60) to 64488. We'll never ask you to text your full debit/credit card number or details. All texts will be charged at your standard text message cost set by your mobile phone service provider.

What if my savings card is lost, stolen or damaged?

Your savings will still be safe. You can still make payments by:

Online
Logging in by entering your surname, postcode and *Customer Number. You'll then be able to make a payment on our secure site using your debit/credit card.
Text
If you've previously made a debit/credit card payment to your savings card, simply text PAY followed by your *Customer Number along with the amount you wish to pay (eg: to pay £5.60, text PAY 123456789 5.60) to 64488. We'll never ask you to text your full debit/credit card number or details. All texts will be charged at your standard text message cost set by your mobile phone service provider.
Post Office
You can make your payment at any Post Office using the barcode printed on the letters we've recently sent you.

Do I need a new card if I move?

No, you don’t need a new card. Visit https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/details/ to change your address so we can update our system. You'll then be able to make payments with your existing card. Or if you prefer, call us on 0300 555 0281 so we can change your address over the phone. To remain correctly licensed, you must let us know that you've moved.

Will I receive a new licence if I change my name or address?

No, you don’t need a licence, however to remain correctly licensed, you must let us know that your details have changed. To change your address visit https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/details/. Should you wish to change your name on your TV Licence, please call us on 0300 555 0281 so we can update our system. You can continue to make payments with your existing card. When we issue your next licence, your new details will be printed on it.

What if I'm blind/severely sight impaired?

You're eligible to apply for a 50% concession on your TV Licence. Call us on 0300 555 0281.

How do I cancel or claim a refund on my TV Licensing savings card?

Call us on 0300 555 0281.

How do I change from the Savings card to another method of payment?

Call us on 0300 555 0281 so we can cancel your savings card and tell you what to do next.

How do I sign up?

You can apply by completing an application form over the counter at your local Post Office.

Or you can call us on 0300 555 0281 Monday to Friday between 8am and 9pm or Saturday between 8am and 5pm.

What if I want a relative or friend to save for me using a savings card?

They should call us on 0300 555 0281 to register as a saver for your TV Licence and to request a savings card. If someone else saves on your behalf, any savings they make on your card will only go towards the TV Licence for the address registered on that card - i.e. yours. No one can take savings from your card to pay for their TV Licence or transfer, exchange or use for any other purpose.

What if I want to save for a relative or friend using a savings card?

Call us on 0300 555 0281 to register as a saver for that person's TV Licence and to request a savings card for their address.

I still have savings stamps. Can I add them to my savings card?

Yes. To add the value of your savings stamps to your TV Licensing savings card, please send them along with your name, address and TV Licence number, if you have one, to:

We suggest you send by Special Delivery which is more secure. Please allow up to 28 days for the value of your savings stamps to be added to your TV Licensing savings card.

How will I know how much I've saved with my savings card?

We'll send you a statement every 6 months. You'll be able to see how much you saved during this time - and also when you made your payments. You can check your balance by either:

  • Logging in by entering your surname, postcode and Customer Number to view your payment history and balance.
  • Calling our 24hr automated balance enquiry service on 0300 555 0281.
  • Text INFO along with your Customer Number (eg: INFO 123456789) to 64488. All texts will be charged at your standard text message cost set by your mobile phone service provider.

Please note that it may take 48 hours from the time we receive your payment for it to appear on your payment history.

What are the benefits of the savings card?
Secure
A record of your savings is stored on our central computer system. So, even if you lose your card, we know how much you've saved.

You can save as much as you like at any time (from as little as £2).
Manageable
We'll send you a statement every 6 months. You'll be able to see how much you saved during this time - and also when you made your payments. You can call us to get a balance on 0300 555 0281 using our automated service which is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You may also find out information about your savings via text and online.
Renews Automatically
If you've saved enough to pay for your TV Licence when it's due for renewal, we'll automatically send you a new licence in the post - no reminder necessary. Any extra savings will be put towards your next TV Licence to give you a head start.
